Actually adding a via point to a route is very easy and only takes a couple of seconds once you know how.
I also tried and removed BaseCamp a couple of times when it first came out because it was so odd. But I forced myself to figure it out and it made planning easier in the long run. I have imported all my waypoints and routes into BaseCamp and rarely use anything else now. The one thing I have no use for is the "Trip Planner" utility.
