New Register Article: One more payment will settle Spruce Goose title

Been to the Tillamook museum too. Very laid back sort of museum with no ropes separating visitors from planes. The blimp hanger is an attraction unto itself.

Presently in Tillamook and have read the local paper concerning the old blimp hanger. Just to repair the old structure will require in the neighborhood of 16 million dollars. There is not that kind of money to be had in this county so the operator is going to relocate to Madras Oregon. It is much drier there and should be much better for the planes. The planes which are on loan to the museum from the Navy will no doubt go back.

The Evergreen museum has many problems according to "Oregonlive" the museum and the freight entity Evergreen International Airlines which is across the road from the museum have a bunch of legal problems one of which is the alleged $50K which is still owed on the Goose to the Aero Club of Southern California.

It appears some of the planes may have been used as collateral on loans. The lawyers are going to have a field day on this one.

We were there in June this year. Much more of a museum than expected. Spent most of a day there no problem. CG is walking distance right next door. What could be more convenient?

Hope they survive. Again, quite the place.

Wow, we were just there in September! It would be a crying shame to not have that museum to visit! It's such a nice and well organized venue!

I was impressed with the parking lot, it's huge and plenty of room for Rvs too. There's a CG adjacent to it too but we stayed at the one just a couple of miles away.

That place is awesome. I'm just glad we got to see it, even got our picture setting behind the controls of the Spruce Goose!!! Doesn't get any better than that.

ED - Didn't mean to imply that the Evergreen was of a lesser quality than the big three (just smaller) and i've visited it twice myself and if I get back and it's still open I'll go again. My whole working life 44 yrs, USAF military/civilian, centered around things that fly and I like them all. What's not to like about a place that also has wine tasting.

I just have to disagree about these two not comparing to the real big guys. Tillamook is small but most of the planes are working; you get the smell of real planes along with the oil and grease (watch your step). The Evergreen is huge and has almost everything and no one else hase the Goose!

Yeah- that would be a real shame. That's a nice museum and the goose is really cool. Get there while you can!

Planning to visit the museum in April or May---hope it remains intact.

Have also heard that the Navy Air Museum near Tillamook housed in the old blimb hangar has closed or will close. Both are worth visiting. Really sad for some of us military that worked on these old flying machines. These smaller museums don't compare to the Smithsonian in DC or the USAF in Dayton or the Navy in Pensacola but they are still spectacular and serve as a reminder of the past. There are many other small ones around the country they are also worth visiting.
