Mesquite, NV to Couer D'Alene, ID

We are currently in Mesquite, NV and headed to Couer D'Alene. Our GPS wants to take us up I15 to I90, which seems out of the way to me. Looking at the map, NV93 seems like a good route. But we are unfamiliar with the route. Does anyone have any advice or local knowledge of this route? Also, we are wondering about 168 from 15 over to 93. We are pulling a 36 foot MS. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

When I put in you route on Google Maps it's 20 miles further via the interstates and two hours faster. How big of a hurry are you in as I-15 puts you near things like Zion/Bryce/Yellowstone /Tetons. 93 has to be one of the most boring roads anywhere unless you like the desert and miles and miles of nothing different.

US 93 is a good route. Don't drive at night and stay on the top half of your fuel tank.
  • If you continue on I-15 you will be going thru SLC. Most people that don't like city driving like to bypass SLC or go thru on a Sunday AM.
  • Most black roads in NV are good for all types of vehicles. I like 93, a lot of RVers going N & S like to take hwy 318 over to 6 then into Ely and back on 93. Like jmtandem said drive on the top half of your tank. Fill up before you leave Mesquite and top off in Ely. If you take 93 all the way a very nice state park Cathedral Gorge and Pioche NV is a very interesting old mining town. I don't think it is boring at all. Dick

Passed thru SLC last May. I dreaded that thought (based on past trips) but was pleasantly surprised by the newer (since I was there last) HOV lane. 100 miles of trouble free travel!! Not bad if you have to do SLC.

Highway 93 - yes boring desert but pretty easy travel to hit I84 at Twin Falls. My opinion - stop for o/n at Ely. To us Wells as an o/n was NOT a good exerience.
  • Thanks so much for your help. We took 93 as we will be taking our grandson to Yellowstone, Tetons, and Mt. Rushmore after our family reunion in Couer D'Alene and will be 90 down to 191. We actually enjoyed the drive. For the most part it was pretty green, relatively cool, and definitely interesting! The roads were great and not too many trucks, always a good thing! Hanks again!
