Many people do not understand Mexican insurance. NOB when you need insurance one often turns to the same fellow who sells you home insurance and maybe life insurance. He is able to "bundle" your policies and may save you some money. Your agent will need to know your driving record, make of vehicle, claims history and may even run a credit check. Mexican insurance is usually based strictly on the value of the vehicle. Doesn't matter if it is a Trebant or a Mercedes. As long as you have a DL your driving history is meaningless. There really are not many sellers of tourist insurance. Maybe less than a dozen. The rest are just agents who get their insurance from a company in Scottsdale . Something like International Insurance. They have ready made websites for anyone who wants to be an agent. No license required. That website will show 5 or 6 policies from a few Mexican insurers. Lewis and Lewis are a true broker. Jim Lewis designed the Qualitas policy. You have to look at more than just the cost. As Tequila mentioned some insurers will only pay $38 per hour labor. Some require you to have the vehicle repaired in Mexico. Others have very low medical coverage and liability. One also has to be aware that if you value your $10,000 vehicle at $15,000 your claim will only pay NADA ( or equivalent) wholesale. If you undervalue the vehicle your claim may be downgraded. If you buy from some fly by night outfit you have no recourse in case of a dispute. Buyer beware.
