It's not possible. Mexican cars can only be insured by a Mexican company. As a foreigner with Mexican plates you have to prove your immigration status. If you have Canadian or American plates you have to purchase insurance through a broker.
Just like in the U.S. and Canada, we had to purchase insurance from a broker in both countries. Our Mexican policies come with a rider included for liability that cost us extra so we don't have to get insurance everytime we cross the border.
Used U.S. cars that are nationalized in Mexico cannot receive insurance until they have been plated and registered in Mexico. Interesting too is that those used/imported cars can only purchase liability insurance in Mexico.
