I think the main reason for buying from a broker is to have somebody who can deal with you in English if you have an accident. Assuming it is a good broker of course.
Nope. There was neither US broker's phone number on my policy by Ace Seguros (purchased online through Baja Bound broker), nor any mention of this broker. Most people don't need US broker in an accident, since the insurer that offers such a "gringo policy" normally has English-speaking phone reps on Mexican toll-free number. And as I've found, English they spoke, sometimes with accent. They don't even put you on hold, somebody always answers. The broker's office in San Diego is only open during normal business hours, unlike the insurer's phone reps that are available 24/7.
I asked some fellow gringos, and concluded that those contacting the Baja Bound office in San Diego were either doing this due to some repairs upon return to the US, or simply because they were "too much gringo" and needed somebody with a gringo mentality, to reassure them.
I have to say that Ace Seguro (and another one that BB is brokering, forgot the name) are big and well known insurers. Maybe with less respectable companies it would be more difficult to get anybody "Ingles" on the phone, though they all - probably - would eventually get you such a person.
