Hmmmmm.....this news isn't very comforting.
Below are comments from a friend who drove from South Bend, IN to Georgia on 9/25. He makes this drive at least monthly. I asked him how this recent drive went.
"From indianapolis to bowling green is all a mess, i averaged under 40 mph for that stretch. It usually takes me 6 hrs to get to bowling green. It took me 8 1/2 hours. I was so exhausted i slept over in Bowling Green. This was thursday 9/25. Definitely the worst it has ever been.
US 31 is great from South Bend until you get to north of Indy. Bypasses southern suburbs of SB and Kokomo.
I will be returning tomorrow and i will be coming back 75 to 74. I'll report on those routes when I return.
I'd rather drive through Atlanta ten times than do I-65 again."
When I asked him why travel was so slow he responded....
"Construction. Lane closures. Stopped traffic. Long stretches of one lane only in Indiana and Kentucky. And it was the middle of the day. Rush hour must be ridiculous."
I assume they are making a push to get construction done before the season ends. I don't know how long the construction season is down there but up here in West Michigan the highway projects are normally done by the end of November. And they plan multi-year projects so that all lanes are open during the winter.
