  • The Reserves in Mexico are opening late this year, end of Nov instead of end of Oct. Screwed up out caravan tour.
  • saw bunches in the eastern shore refuge, while we where manning the vcenter. just to mention a few. now its all happy- camping
  • Some say it is 5 generations coming and 5 generations going. I hate the 1,000 monarch splatters on my windshield getting to the sanctuary if I go late in the morning. If you decide to park outside the sanctuary, gas up and have good batteries for your rig's heater. It commonly drops to the 20's F in winter as it is high altitude.
  • The Monarch Butterflies actually do not fly all the way from Mexico to Western Canada. They breed and replace at several stops along the way. So although we call it a migration it is not quite the same as the Ducks and Geese!
  • There are quite a few Monarch sites in CA. There is also a Monarch grove in Pacific Grove near Monterey and numerous others. These Monarchs are not the same ones that fly all the way to south Mexico. California is the final destination of the Pacific Monarch migration.
  • Near Pismo Beach in California there is a grove of trees where the Monarch Butterflies mate. It's really quite amazing to see.

As you stand among the trees 100s of butterflies come twirling down, you have to be careful when walking.
