- Only other reasonable option would be after you come down Monarch pass at Poncha Springs take US285 north (just west of Salida)to US24 east at Johnson Village. Both options the roads are good. I personally find the scenery better on the 285/24 route but that is me. Time wise it is about 15 minutes quicker to go 285/24 but the road is a bit easier 50/115 so really 6 of one, half a dozen of the other
- Stay on 50 W to Penrose and take 115 N and pick up 24 W in the Springs.
