Monument Valley

Thanks, I think what I'm remembering is Mustang Valley CG.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks there is a small campground about 40 miles from Monument called Sand Island. Its very nice, but get there early as it does fill up.

More like the center right on the horizon, rather than the upper right. You can see MV just above and to the right of my trailer.

Yes, Goosenecks has great boondocking -- that's my trailer in this shot -- but it is close to Monument Valley only if you are a bird. That's Monument Valley on the horizon in the upper right corner of the shot. It's a good 40 minutes from Goosenecks to MV.

So what you save in RV park fees, you pay in gas and lost time.

If I wanted to visit MV, I'd stay nearer to MV.

I don't believe there is any boondocking allowed anywhere on the Navajo Reservation and certainly not within the park itself. As a previous poster mentioned Valley of the Gods, Goosenecks State Park, If you are willing to drive up the Moki Dugway (which you may or may not be able to do depending on your rig and setup) there is a lot of it up there. Muley Point which is right on the edge of the mesa top, the road to it is decent until you get close to the point then it gets rougher but have seen some good size fifth wheels up there though I doubt they went up the dugway more than likely came in from the north though maybe.

Well yeah, $42 for a bare patch of sand without hookups. I was thinking free or very cheap camping.

Go to Campendium, and you'll find what you're looking for in that area. You may have to create a login, but this is a free site and my main go to site for research.

You can camp in the Valley of the Gods, Gooseneck State Park, and I think I heard near Mexican Hat. I did not see anything on the Navajo land at Monument Valley and frankly would be surprised if they did allow it. It would go against their commercial interests.
