Moon Lake State Rec Site

Has anyone camped in an RV at "Moon Lake State Recreation Site" outside Tok?

It's a small campground with 15 to 17 sites depending on which website you read.

I'm wondering if it's particularly busy or not, mid August ... or is it some place to avoid?

  • good stuff ... this is gonna be my first stop after entering Alaska from YK, before heading off to follow the Richardson south toward Glennallen
  • I camped there last year, July 20, on my AK trip. Here's what I wrote in my camping log:

"14 gravel sites in 2 separate areas on level land. Plenty of trees. Nice little lake within rock throwing distance. $15"

If the mosquitoes were bad, I probably would have noted that.

Below are pics of my site and the small lake. Note the float plane hidden in the bushes to the left side.

You might find my blog for that trip useful in your travels. It's here.

    Have fun!

  • We stopped in for lunch once. Initially planned to stay overnight but after a walkabout and afternoon snack, we decided to move on. The camping area is a large open area similar to numerous RV parks in the north. Not many of the sites were level.

The lake was nice enough. A float plane came and went while we were there.
Seemed to be a popular spot for fishermen.
  • Have no value-adding answer (never even heard of it, much less camped there).

    However.....Tok....mid-August..."Lake"....you'll have bugs!.
