Motor Carriers Atlas Questions

We have a Class C with a roof mounted satellite dish and our height is 12'2"

I am only familiar with the Motor Carriers Atlas through mentions here on this forum.

I like to route us on state and federal and even county highways instead of Interstates. I tried to view pages of the atlas on Amazon but couldn't tell if they provide information, specifically heights on all roads.

Can someone tell me before I spend our money on this atlas?

Thanks

  • We wouldn't be without ours. When planning a route, it will inform us of low overheads, etc., along a designated truck route. Keep in mind that it does not mention info about lesser routes, but if you are trying to negotiate a large metro area or any other designated truck route, it will let you know where those areas to avoid are located.

    Yes and I agree 100%

  • Thanks! One of our neighbors used to drive a truck and they now have an RV and I am thinking they might have one I can look at. I didn't think of that before.
  • We route using and old (as new as it gets) Street Atlas, that is getting remarkable inaccurate with age. We also carry a Walmart Rand Mcnally street atlas because electronic stuff is always undependable (right now my wire is with my wife's phone, Mine crashed).

We also carry the pair of mountain directories. They are East and West and Why carry both? because when we depart, we have a plan. That plan will be lucky to last three days. Fortunately, I can change the mail hold with the internet so I can lengthen a day or two (just like I did Monday when we changed plans).

Our coach is both small and light, but I should like to look at one sometime even thought I know that many roads we like truckers would avoid.

  • Its a good atlas to have, and well worth the money. But, it does detail the major interstates more than the smaller routes, because that is the routing that most Motor Carriers use. But there is a lot of information that also applies to any large vehicle. We have one, and use it quite often. The best maps are no longer available. We carry an assortment of local state maps, and refresh them at visitor centers, rest stops and wherever. Most of them show more local detail, but are a pain to use.
  • Spend the $$ for the atlas and have it on hand.
