All good suggestions. Monticello is a must, and the historic Michie Tavern nearby is great for a hearty lunch while you are there.
While you are in the Charlottesville area, you might also look into some of the fine Virginia wineries north and east of there, if you enjoy visiting tasting rooms.
Another option if you visit Monticello is to turn west afterward and cross the Blue Ridge at Afton Mountain on I-64 and drive north on the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park. When you get to the top, you can turn east to DC on Rt. 66.
