Hasn't been called Duke Power State Park in years...It's Lake Norman State Park. No hookups there. They do have liberal generator hours, except overnight. While it's located at Lake Norman, the sites really do not have close access to the water. (Not like the water comes up campside).
However, there is a boat launch area not too far from the campsite. I would not recommend McDowell Nature Preserve. It had been a number of years since we've been out there. Drove through last month and we know. Only a handful of RV sites and they are terrible. There is a KOA ins Statesville and one in Ft Mill, SC. Wildlife Woods and Crosscreek are in the Denver area. Crosscreek and Wildlife are more or less long term campers. There are a few sites for overnighters, but they are not "great". Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort (allows trailers) is not too far from those two. It's a lot nicer place (paved pads, landscaped, more upscale), but it is pricey. There's the one over in Concord near the race track. It's not a great place either. No shade, gravel pit, etc. There are a couple other around the race track that are smaller and more private.
Unfortunately, there are none that really stand out. If you are willing to be outside of Charlotte by an hour or more, then we can start giving a little more suggestions.
