My husband is going to fly into Halifax and do the last half of RV trip with me and my son. It seems like there is a lot to do in Nova Scotia.
Is there a good central campground to stay at while visiting the region?
We want to visit Quebec City before heading south and were considering driving all along the coast of New Brunswick.
Is it worth the drive, the extra day or two to do it?
Will we wish we had taken more time?
Or is there a fantastic scenic route that will be just as picturesque if we take a more direct route?
The only one we have stayed at is http://www.woodhavenrvpark.com/ . We stayed there a few years ago as it was conveniently close to the city. I can't recall anything major wrong with it.
What time of year will you be travelling? Halifax is a great city to visit and there is lots to do. It is home to great restaurants and entertainment. My wife and I just returned from a 4 day trip this afternoon. Not sure how familiar you are with the area so will suggest you visit Peggy's Cove which is a short drive from Halifax. If you want more suggestions on where to eat etc and what to see let me know.
From Halifax then Truro, you can take rte 2 and then 209 all the way to Advocate Harbour. It is very beautiful along there, the Cobequid Bay. Plan on 1 - 2 days.
You will enter NB at Sackville which in itself is a quaint little university town. I would suggest from Moncton you drive to Fundy National park http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/nb/fundy/index.aspx via Hillsborough Rte 114. This will take you along the Bay of Fundy coast where in Hopewell you can walk on the ocean ground http://www.thehopewellrocks.ca/
From there you can continue on the 114, 10 and 2 to make it to Fredericton. You can continue on the #2 but the scenery is not what it was years ago before they built the divided highway. Depending on your time and what you are towing, I would recommend rte 105. It is much slower but is a nice drive along the Saint John River. You can see the worlds longest covered bridge in Hartland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartland_Bridge
There are several roads you can take as well but again it depends on your time. To see the eastern coast is nice but it would take you a lot of time and you need to connect to different roads. Up north, its nice between Grand Anse and Janeville but it will take you a day to get up there. Don't get me wrong, NB is a beautiful province and you could easily spend a month exploring it I am only making suggestions to match your expressed needs.
Hope this helps, let me know if I can do more. Its nice to be able to help for once instead of asking questions :).
