In November, the road that will go from Patzcuaro to Hwy 15 looked pretty complete. It will connect Patzcuaro to 15 avoiding Morelia. That would be great.Anyone have any idea if the road is open??

Perhaps you could give more detail about the road and where you think it will go? Do you mean 15 or 15D? Is it a perferico around Morelia or further out going through the countryside?I will try to Copy & Paste a map to help.

14D currently runs from Lazaro Cardenas to Patzcuaro. It will eventually, or may now, continue to intersect with 15D north of the current 43. In November, both ends looked complete. Does anyone know if it is open yet?

About a month ago - maybe less - we traveled from 15D down 43 and around Morelia to 14 and on to Patzcuaro. Saw no indication of any other road along that route. Had not problem with that route. We saw no indication of construction that gave us hope of a new road. If there is a new road it may not be along the route we took.

It's there, but if you weren't looking for it, you might not have seen it. We've been watching it for several years, and again, this year it looked complete, even had signs.No, the run around Morelia isn't bad anymore, however, a complete bypass would be very convenient.

On second thought - and second look - we did see new construction on the Patzcuaro end but I thought they were just modifying that intersection. We had a hard time with it as we were on 14D headed toward Morelia but want off at Patzcuaro to head up to Quiroga. The intersection was all messed up so we went up 14D a bit and did a Retorno. Never occurred to me that it was going to be a whole new road. So I looked on Google Earth to see what appears to be the start of a new road around 19.532313 -101.555.775 with an Image Date of March 2015. Looking further up the road west of 43 on 15D there is a new road there too. I looked down that road a bit to 19.873700 -101.229026 where they appear to be building a new bridge with columns in with Image Date of February 2015. Of course that is of no help in answering your question as we did not attempt to travel that road in either direction so have no idea if it is open yet. But thanks for letting us know as it could be of use to us one of these days. There are new roads being built all over Mexico but some of them seem to take quite a while to get finished. We travel between Jocotepec at the west end of Lake Chapala up to Guadalajara and have seen evidence of a new road being built which appears to be a continuation of the road that goes down to Manzanillo but I am not sure about that - just there has been indications of construction along one area there for at least several years - concrete bridge beams being built etc - but still no road ready to travel as far as I can tell. More and more new roads all the time.

It was March 15th when we drove by it, but we remember it as being about 10 miles north of where we got off of 15D road going west to go to Morelia. Could have been 5 miles, could have been 12.

This road is now open!!!!
Reportedly, the toll for a car from Patzcuaro to 15D is 108p.
Don't care about the price, now Morelia can be bypassed!

Using the PATH tool in Google Earth I tried to follow the obvious construction to get an idea of the new road route. There were a few places where there did not appear to be construction as of the date of the Google Earth image date in March of 2015. But this picture may give some idea of where the new road will be.

In no way am I even remotely suggesting this is the route the new road will take. This is the approximate starting point and finishing point base on what can be seen on Google Earth. You can see the road construction from almost a year ago on GE. The road does curve and twist around to get from point A to Point B. I could put in a bunch of Lat Lon numbers but it would take too much time. This is just to give a very rough idea of where the road seems to be going. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE A STRAIGHT LINE........

We just left Patzcuaro on 14D and it appears that there will be a link to 15D but from 15D it appears like the road is still a ways from being completed. Any further information would be interesting to know. Do not see how there could be a straight shot from Patzcuaro to 200D (I was not aware there was a 200D at this time).
