new road to arctic

http://www.cbc.ca/news/multimedia/driving-to-the-top-of-the-world-exploring-canada-s-new-arctic-highway-1.4073615

don't have to go to alaska to dip you toes in the arctic anymore

looking forward to travel reports ,boon docking and fishing along the way.
Short season though
  • They should see increased tourism for a few months of the year but it will still be very weather dependent. I was to Inuvik once, we were stuck in Whitehorse for three days waiting for the truck convoy to form up and the weather to clear. Nobody in their right mind travels that road alone.
  • I read about this new road on a recent edition of the on-line Truck Camper Magazine. A couple from either Edmonton or Calgary, I can't remember which, had traveled up there in their truck camper in the dead of winter! I guess it's a win for the local residents who no longer have to be so isolated waiting for the ice road to open up. It's an all-weather gravel road from what I read. Happy for the residents of long-isolated Tuk.

Having flown in that area many times during the summer I can understand how they managed an ice road but that part of the country has more holes (lakes) in it than a Swiss cheese factory.

I can’t even begin to imagine how they would’ve laid out the route to make a road in that part of the country.
