I had an 03 AF 1140. Great camper with a lot of room and comfort but it s heavy.
I did have some delamination on the nose cap.

Wood or aluminum, a stock dually will feel pretty squishy until it gets stiffer shocks.

I was skeptical about that and honed in on aluminum frame for our first camper, AF860.
It was fine. Next camper was a wood frame 03 model 860. Honestly I can't tell a bit of dofference and neither can the truck.
I don't think it helps with weight much of any and I've had the old wood camper through some ripping head winds and it's still fine.
Other than rot, which is almost as big a concern with an Al frame, for me there was no discernable advantage.
I'd still prefer Al over wood, but guessing only in theory.

Your dually will haul any 1150 with ease, but you stil may want to add air bags, stable loads and/or a sway bar. Just how it is. No different with any other 1ton dually.

Gonna have to disagree with this one. I realize I'm a new member, but I've read enough to have formed an opinion.

Pompous is the word that comes to mind. Had a discussion about this with a valued member of this site not to long ago, and it ended up being about one specific poster.

One of the put offs to those seeking info is reading through all the posts from know-it-all's. It is possible to have an opinion on everything; it is not probable to have a such a wide range of expertise on everything. Ideally, folks would respond to that which they are strongest in knowledge of. Posting because one likes to hear themselves... irritates many.

And for folks to point this out, as Troutguy did, makes for good reading on another level. Trolling? hardly. Pointing out the obvious, entertaining and relieving. Trolling requires baiting for a response and trying to deceive. I believe Troutguy was trying to diplomatically get a point across. I'm not going to hold my breath that it will work this time either.

I recall 2005 being the year of the switch for AF from Wood to Aluminum.

2004 will be wood...they went to aluminum in 2006...have had both. 2004 1140 ...2006 1150.They are heavy and either way,...even with a dually your better off to do some stabilizing mods...it makes for a much better ride..

Got to love this forum. You guys have given me a lot of info. I didn't know this might be a wooden frame. I think I will try for a lighter model. Thanks to everyone.

GVWR is paper number. It has everything to do with registration fees, but very loose correlation to vehicle actual capacities.
Having 12-foot campers COG is my main issue.
Having Supercab for small dogs, all heavy stuff, like water, tools go on Supercab floor.
Takes me some talking with DW to move all heavy liquor from rear compartment into front compartments.
Still per couple of drives via scales, my COG is behind rear axle and as mentioned, 200 lb of waste water in rear tank can badly affect the ride.

I have a 2015 GMC 3500 HD dually and the GVW is 13,025 not 14k like the RAMs and Fords. Those older wooden framed 1100 series AF’s are heavy, I believe you will at the least need air bags and be over your GVW by several hundred pounds.

So to answer your weight question - Years ago I had an 04 AF1140, same basic weight as the 1150, on an '01 Ford dually. I went with Torklift StableLoads and it was fine.

But to Yukoner's point--
CHECK IT FOR LEAKS!!! Mine was covered with an Aquashed cover at the time which is an absolute WORTHLESS cover. I discovered water had leaked through it, through a leak in the roof, and delam'd the entire cabover nose and underside.
