Having an idea of what you want to see and do is a good thing. Having an itinerary that makes you just drive through the places you want to see is no fun. Plan on seeing the arch in St. Louis? Great museum below it worth the time to see....and educational for the kids about Lewis and Clark and the westward movement. Take in a ball game at Busch Stadium? Check the schedule.
The key is to be flexible and be willing to stay more days than originally planned if you especially like an area. I always go on-line and order the travel guides from the states we will travel to or thruogh. Look through them and involve the kids to find something they can choose to see or do. Make it fun and not misery just couped up in the motorhome all the time. Its fine to have a full wish list itinerary, as long as you can deviate from it to enjoy seeing the beauty of our great country.
