Solo RV'ing

Rule #1: Get out & look. Do it before attempting to back in.

Once you determine that you can fit & have a mental image of the hazaards base what you do on the side that you can see to get in & roughly lined up.

Once lined up both sides can be seen & you can shuffle left or right to desired position.

The commercial guys do it all the time. They know they have room. All they have to do is work close to the side that can be seen.

Not sure it was mentioned, but Im thinking one situation a lot of people make mistakes is turning to close and hitting something. Like a tight corner and hitting the inside curb, or turning around a pole and getting to close, or pulling into a gas station and getting to close to the pumps as you turn in. It certainly will be much easier without towing, but if you decide to,, x27 on practicing and knowing how your setup turns and drives. happy travels!!

Forward driving.. Visit a mall after hours and practice on the circle drive.

Backing can be done,, Lay out some rubber dunce caps and try not to crush them.

Seriously: Growing up as I did on a dairy farm I learned to back up early.. Today I drive a class A.

For a few years we had no car,,,, So when I went to store I drove the A.

got back to campground and had a fantastic site, true it was back in but directly across from it was a paved wash, so you just pulled on to the wash popped it in REVERSE and backed in.

Next site over the woman is on the phone with her hubby, First time campers with a trailer.. She is marveling at how easily I backed in.

Easiest back in site I have ever encountered I mean STRAIGHT back.. Pull throughs I have been in are harder to negotiate.

You can even see how far from the curb your rear tires are, when parallel parking.

Most angled sites are easier to back into than a straight site. When it's angled, as you reach the spur, turn your vehicle away from the spur as you go past. This will put your RV in an angled position on the road, but that angle will be close to the spur angle letting you almost back in straight.

Someone else mentioned it earlier, but do a search on "The Scoop" backing up method. This will give you greater maneuverability in tight spaces.

When I first got my TT, I was worried about backing up. I hadn't towed for a couple decades. Because I had to back it up into a tight driveway (brick house on one side, 6ft fence on the other and only about 10ft wide. I started out by parking it on the street when I got home, and then early the next morning I would go out and back it in while there was no one on the roads. Much less stressful while I was trying to get the hang of it (and I didn't have helpful strangers trying to direct me making it more stressful and difficult). After a few times, I got comfortable enough that I could back up anywhere and anytime. When I got the C, it was a piece of cake in comparison.

You could bring a couple of big garbage cans to use as obstacles.

I thought I'd go to a State Park near my hometown and practice there also. I have watched numerous videos on YouTube and think they will be very helpful. One thing I came across last night while looking at State Parks is most if not all of the site are at an angle. The video tutorial I watched just showed backing into a straight site. So I will be looking for video addressing that issue.

Find a large parking lot of an closed business. Put out something that you regard as trees, etc. and practice.
If you have nothing else. take a can of paint along and X in some imaginary things to avoid.

I would guess that once you drive a few hundred miles you're going to feel like a pro. If I have a correct picture in my mind of your Winnie, keep in mind that the front is narrower than the living portion so if you think you can fit into a space by eyeing it for the front cab portion only, you're going to scrape something in the rear because it's wider. Don't ask me how I know. We rented one about 30 years ago for a family trip.

Fuel stations? Just allow more room when maneuvering around the pumps or choose an end one but always keep you eye open for an easy out.

No towed? I think you'll find that having a towed vehicle makes a long stay so much simpler and you'll get to sitesee a lot more. Unhooking all your connections to go somewhere gets old.

OP - Google "backing an RV" or similar phrase - lots of videos on this subject. One that helped me was called "The Scoop"
