Just to answer a couple questions while i am working on revised route:
DW will be able to drive but will likely prefer it to be interstate (flat) vs other.
Not intending to be the trip of a lifetime, but I am not planning on long term RV'ing (i.e Multiple trips/multiple years with kids) and this two month trip is a luxury for our family until i retire. I know this seems short to you all but I generally only get off a couple of weeks a year so feels extremely long.
Goal was to experience RV'ing, see the National Parks/interesting places, and spend time with the family on an adventure. No mission or specific directional goals beyond that.
This was a bit of a last minute decision which has all come together in the last month and we leave in 3 weeks. In that time, we have bought an RV, TOAD, and made our first cut at plan and are having fun working through the challenges. I realize that this will likely seem crazy to most of you, but that's part of the fun of it for us!
....>>>>....No reservations
We are flexible and will certainly adjust if it feels too rushed or we have any weather issues/Mech failures.
I was using 60MPH in my calculations so lowering that to 50MPH per advice above make a big difference.
RV is a '15 Georgetown 351DS - Toad is 08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Back with a plan B shortly hopefully
Thanks Again!
A few lists to work with, list not my choices but a good start -
Options for Colorado
Utah list
Wyoming
Montana
Then out through Custer
Don't get me wrong You have TIME - 60 days but spend it in places, not driving to places - because you have no reservations you will likely need to Boondock - Generator - No A/C - You have the JEEP - this will open up so much LOCAL fare - In Colorado - there are trails that you will never want to leave - Elevation will be your Friend (Cooler) - You might even try to get a place/room in a few of the Historic Inn's/Hotels in the parks - Not easy but often a cancellation - Have done this with my Boys at your kids age in Yellowstone, Glacier and the Tetons - Dinosaur NM is IMHO just special to young kids - Utah will be HOT - Think water, lakes, rivers, early morning and evening - Think great drives - RT 12 - RT 128 - Independence Pass -Peak to Peak - Needles ............ -
Can't wait to see the revised trip - sure, it will still be ambitious, and many will still say no way but just like the little train "I think I Can" - Couple of thoughts - Good SMALL Camera - Good hiking Boots for all - rain gear - Fleece - Grill, to eat with easy - Allstays - Wal*Mart - backpacks - Hats - sunscreen -..................
This is going to Be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ON Edit -
Just to give you a taste Matt has done more than most and the kids survived - check into his trips for Insight.
