New X-Ray Scanning south of Nuevo Laredo

Just a FYI...We just completed a trip from Laredo to La Penita and crossed at Columbia Bridge. On highway 85 south of Nuevo Laredo we were pulled over for an inspection and required to go through an X-Ray screening. This is a large complex and fairly new as it wasn't there last year. The officials were polite but having everyone exit the motorhome while it was scanned and then wait for the results was a long and tedious hour.
  • Here's a pic of the new x-ray building at km 26 south of Reynosa. You drive through. Heading north is a truck with a conveyor belt like at the airport. You have to unload bags and put them on the line.

  • They are also completing one at the garita south of Reynosa. It looks pretty much done.

Heading from north to south, they now have a portable x-ray machine where they stop you and you take all your luggage out and pass it through just like in the airport.

Just hope you don't have a bus in front of you. Everyone has to get out, collect their bags, run them through the machine and then load back up. Can take about 15 minutes.
  • If you look closely, you can also find facial recognition cameras as well. A nephew of mine (hispanic) went down to fix a diesel in Brawley, across the border from Mexicali.. Apparently they shot a photo of his face on the way into town. The job was quick, and he headed out less than 30 minutes later.. That's when a second camera shot his picture again, and calculated his extremely short visit. He was pulled over a couple miles later, and they made him sit while they brought a portable xray truck out to do the same as they did to you.. High tech.
  • Drugs, weapons, ammo, bombs, stowaways, cows, contraband etc.

Vehicle X-Raying is quicker and less destructive than hands on search.
