  • Loved both Gros Morne and Terra Nova National Parks. We were tenting so I can't really give advice on campgrounds, but Newfoundland is an incredibly special place. People are absolutely wonderful there (or at least were!). Scenery is outstanding. check the on-line sites for both the national parks for more info. L'Anse Aux Meadows is a viking site that is very interesting.
  • I lived in NL from 1983 to 2008.

I too have a truck camper and find it very very suitable to many places on that island (and for Labrador as well).

    Top places IMHO:
    - Gros Morne Natinal Park - ALL of it. Several sites are only place like that on this planet.
    - Northern Peninsula, especially Viking sites
    - St. Mary's Bird Sanctuary
    - St. John's
    - Miscellaneous side roads. Corner Brook and to the sea, Corner Brook to Deer Lake ----- both after you cross over to North Shore Bay of Islands and take the logging roads.
    - Red Indian Lake via side roads. Wish I'd done more, lots more of that kind of meandering.

  • You can go to all the CAPES in Newfoundland, there you will get the best views, whales, ice bergs etc, there are dozens of Cape this and that, usually the road goes in and out, no loops.. you have the best vehicle for Newfoundland, just go down all those little in/out roads you come to all around the province, if you like the area at the end of the road, many times a lighthouse etc. just pull over and stay all night... don't even think about campground type places...
  • There is an exceptionally long running thread on this topic over at AirForums - it covers not only the planning but also serves as the original authors trip diary - and it's still running. You'll do well to spend the time to go through it:
