Because of the dog, I took the short ferry both ways. At the time, you weren't allowed to stay in the RV. I did anyway. Just stayed in the rig with the dog the whole trip.

If you mean on the ferry, I am not sure of the rules. You may want to take the ferry to Port Aux Basques inseatd fo Argentia. Its about half as long (16hrs compared to 8Hrs)

The RV parks here do have leash rules.

Are you planning on renting when you are here? If so, some places have a no pet rule for their rentals.

There are many scenic drives here. Pick up a Newfoundland & Labrador traveller's map. They can be picked up either from the Newfoundland Tourism office. It will show where these drives are. Some are longer than others. Just remember that our island is bigger than it looks on most maps. Google Scenic Newfoundland Drives, it should come up.

Yoou asked about phones. There are no special phone requirements here. Some providers here have spotty signal (Rogers), but Telus and Bell have no issues.

Most parks here have mostly seasonal lots so be prepared to have full parks. Rates here are comaprable to most other places in Canada.

If you are here late June early July you will be here for iceberg season. Check out Twilingate or St. Anthony. They are a long ways apart so plan accordingly.

Check out the town websites where you plan to visit. There are lots of festivals all over the island. Just google the town name.

We frequently do a search at My Trip Journal when researching a trip to places we haven't been. Many other people have done this trip and wrote about it so seeing their comments can be useful.

I lived on Newfoundland for 24.5 years.

The ferries are new ships since I moved away in 2008. In my day your dogs could stay with your vehicle, you couldn't. If you take the shorter route you have two chances to see more of the island. Just see different places going each way.

You can buy a card for your cell phone at a convenience store. That can have prepaid options. If you use the one on the US plan likely you will get very expensive 'roaming' charges once in Canada. & given the sparsity of NL's population you may find towers far apart. Google up Telus Cell Phone and Rogers Cell Phone for comparisons of cell phone coverage.

This is a heavy ice year. Lots of ice will still be floating off NL shores in June. & probably frost heaves still in the roads too. Go to http://www.icebergfinder.com/ to find where bergs are.

- Codroy Valley
- Burgeo and islands
- St. Georges Bay
- Bay of Islands and Marble Mountain
- Bonne Bay, especially both visitors centres for Gros Morne National Park*
- Theatre Newfoundland & Labrador, especially for Cow Head, http://www.theatrenewfoundland.com/ Tempting Providence is about the area and ia world award winning play.
- L'anse aux Meadows Viking Village, world heritage site. & Norsted locally created Viking village.
- St. Anthony

- St. John's
- Cape St. Mary's Bird Sanctuary
- Trinity Pageant.

* As with Bay of Fundy, there are features of Gros Morne National Park which are 'one of a kind' for the planet.

We spent three and half months in Newfoundland last summer and had a great time. We took the short ferry both waysbecause of our pets. Our pets stayed in our 5er the entire time. They do not permit you to stay in your RV during the ferry crossing. We have Verizion service and our phones worked well much of the time there. We contacted Verizion before crossing into Canada and for I beleive $10.00 or $15.00 a month added 1000 minutes talk and unlimited text "NO DATA", we have a share plan. Data is expensive so be very careful with it in Canada. We used McDonalds, Tim Hortons, public library etc... for internet. Most of the Campground that say they have internet only have it in the office never at you RV site. We were able to get internet at the RV by using a WiFiRanger mobile signal booster.

I agree with the above. We went there in 2009 and are going back next month. The only time that your dog will need a muzzle is on the grounds of the ferry company. The person that I talked to on the phone said that we could also use a "Haltie" I would check with them as they are pretty strict with their rules.

In my time,
- Newfoundland a gravel pit on your right 25-35 km north of the ferry.

- Nova Scotia. At the very base of Kelly's Mountain, take a right on gravel road before bridge. There will be some place to pull over on that road.

I will have to call again because the woman I spoke to was really clear that we could stay in the mH with them.

Passengers are not permitted on vehicle decks while the ferry is travelling. I don't think they would permit a crewmember to escort you. I've heard of people forgetting medicines and not permitted to retrieve them. This may have changed as the incident I referred to was quite awhile ago.
