Newfoundland

Has anyone travelled Newfoundland in a 38 ft. 5th wheel and if so did you have a problem finding campgrounds for that size RV or maneuvering on the roads?
  • They are sea going vessels, with several vehicle decks, that will hold hundreds of vehicles, including 18-wheelers. On the three trips we have taken on them, all of the 18-wheelers were loaded on the upper vehicle deck. They have very nice seats, a large bar area, a restaurant and snack bar.

    It is very nice ride.

Another question re ferry. Are they pull on and pull off or back in? Have travelled Ferries on the Inside Passage to Alaska, but not with this size RV. Also is it necessary to reserve campsites or are there usually sites available? Thanks all for the info.

There are numerous videos of the ferrys/ships on youtube. They are ro ro ships capable of carrying vehicles far bigger than anything we drive.

  • Should be no problem. Mine measures 33ft from ladder to hitch. Thisnis an actual measurement. Towed it from just outside St. John's to the tip of the northern peninsula. Never had any issue, always had lots of room. I did this summer before last.

Towed the fiver with a CTD quad cab, short box.

BIL tows his 34ft TT without an issue. Your 38 will have no trouble.

  • I am gonna find out if a 34 5er fits this year. Not anticipating any problems. Figure CGs can't be much different than what we found in N BC or YT.

    Biggest expense is the ferry.
  • Did it in 2007 and 2015 in a 40' motorhome towing a pickup. No problems. Newfoundland is a really big place with real highways.

In fact arrived there via the Labrador highway last year.
  • Come on down my dear. There's thousands of room and the roads are plenty big for your rig! : )
