First, I'll admit to not understanding the fascination with bears; they're cool and all, but so are moose, caribou, and (even more so) Dall Sheep. Second, having now spent far too much time in Ewe-stun, anyone that thinks there's traffic in Alaska needs to come to the Bayou City for a visit..I'd suggest 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on a Friday, visit either I-10 or US 59.
Finally, one should just live in AK....there's been more than one occasion, usually late in the fall, when I've been sipping a martini (Vodka, Grey Goose, thank you) on the cabin deck and watched bears and moose wander by. Even had the incredible privilege to see wolves chase down a momma moose and calf in front of the cabin...Momma made it, calf didn't.
Yes there are fires and smoke, but that's part of the price one pays for living in AK.
