I just hope it doesn't visit you in SC ! RYV
- PNW_SteveExplorerWell we wound up staying at the Walmart in Nogales. We pulled onto the lot and looked for other RV's. None to be seen so we pulled in the corner where there were several trucks parked. It was bright, loud and the truck drivers had arranged their trucks leaving kind of a square in the middle and they were having a party.
I made the obligatory shopping trip into the store and on my way out I spied a single truck on the far edge of the lot. If you are facing the front of the store the "driveway" on the far right end of the parking lot. The spot was somewhat darker and MUCH more quiet.
We moved to that spot and enjoyed the most peaceful night on a Walmart lot that I have ever experienced.
Some time back I spent over 6 years full time and probably spend 300-400 nights on various Walmart lots. This was the most comfortable yet.
Thanks Everyone. - cross_countryExplorerPima Mine road is the exit for Dessert Diamond. South of Tucson off 19 Go left at the end of the off ramp.
Usually 8 to 15 RV's in there, go in the main entrance and take a left to the upper parking area. Longer units may want to go all the way down the entrance to the stop sign and turn left and then go up one of the laneways that take you to the upper parking areas. (There is more area to turn in)
Diesel fuel at last gas station before the border 3.69 (on the left side of the road)
Reasonable buffet and a separate grill area in the casino
Left around eight in the morning...out of K21 before noon (that's what may or may not take the time regardless what time you get up) easy drive under the speed limit to San Carlos, arrived 4;45 pm.
Lots of room here at tonka toys in San Carlos with a bunch of us awaiting the weather report on hurricane Vance before continuing South. - snarleyExplorerWe have stayed at the Nogales Walmart four or five times going south. With all the extra stuff we just have to buy it's way more expensive than an RV park. But we felt safe and the lot was patrolled by a Walmart pickup truck with flashing lights several times each night. We would stay there again.
- rocmocExplorerOnly one Walmart in Nogales, AZ., 100 West White Park Dr.
Thanks Moisheh.
rocmoc n AZ/Mexico - moishehExplorerThat Pilot is avoided by many US truckers. They steal anything not bolted to the truck. Drugs are for sale. Lot lizards. Stolen produce for sale. Nothing quiet about that place. Very crowded as most trucks load at night and they arrive early to get a parking place. When I went on my first OTR run my trainer had us stay at the rest area. He NEVER stayed at that Pilot.
Moisheh - jtomich4ExplorerGeez! What kind of illegal activity takes place at that hell-hole Pilot station. Not a gated community, perhaps, but still, is it really unsafe? We usually have dinner at the Cow Palace in Amado and then spend a quiet night at the Pilot before our early run at the border.
- Alison_and_NeilExplorerDe Anza is close enough. We left at about 7:30 AM and got to San Carlos in plenty of time (approx. 3 PM ) for a first night's stopover
