Fargo- Bismarck-Minot

Thx
  • Two summers ago we took Hwy 2 across and enjoyed it a lot It was a easy drive, but that is the only way we have ever gone so I can't say if 52 is better or worse
  • On my trip to Alaska, I drove across US 2, then north on I-15 to cross the border at Sweetgrass, MT. but I don't think it will make much difference. Most of the roads run N-S or E-W. Ranches in Montana are huge. Don't miss a chance to get gas since many of the big ranches (like my second cousin's) have gas pumps on their property for their farm machinery.
  • The Red River valley Fargo to Grand Forks is as flat as flat can be. But the routes west are pretty flat as well. US83 appears to be the main NS route across the middle of the state. It connects to the Portal border crossing.

So it probably doesn't matter much which route you take.
  • I have done them all over the years. They are all ok. The shortest is I94 to Jamesrown then US 52 to Minot. If you are into Lewis & Clark history take I94 to Bismark then US 83 to Minot.. I believe the museum is at Washburn
  • Shortest route is Fargo-Jamestown and US 52 to Minot.

However, if you like four lane roads, then Fargo-Grand Forks-Minot is all four lane, all the way. I-29 to US 2.

Plenty of fuel stops, services both routes.
