North of LA to San Diego

I'll be in the MH heading to San Diego from north of LA. I plan on hitting LA mid to late morning, mid week. I'm thinking it best to go out of the way to avoid traffic so am considering taking the 210 east and catching the 57 south to 71 south to 91 east and take I-15 south, through Temecula. It's a longer distance but is it worth the extra time? I assume the 15 will get busy south bound by 2-3 pm.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
  • Thanks to all for the input. Looks like 210/15 wins. If all goes according to plan.....and how often does that happen......I hope to hit the Pasadena area around 11 am.
  • 5/210/15 forget that other detour. Hit 210 by noon and you are fine. (as good as it gets)

Check google maps for traffic and accidents blocking traffic.
If 210 is blocked you may need to divert down to 10 or 60 to get over to the 15.
  • Like Gonzo42 said. 210 to the 15 south. Slow going thru Pasadena but usually loosens up after that. 57 to (10 or 71) can be a nightmare.
  • NO route through my county is traffic free. Just grin and slug through it.
  • I've taken that route numerous times. The 91 is pretty rough surface and is heavy in traffic both cars and big trucks.

IMHO, you would be better off continuing on the 210 until the 15 south.
  • At least the motorhomes have kitchens and bathrooms.. Really becomes important for diabetic old farts stuck in traffic. Have been known to swap drivers in the middle of stop and go traffic jams. Cram it into park, jump and run.
