Northbound Colorado 141 and 139

Anyone have any input on Colorado 141 and 139 northbound from cortez area? I'm pulling a 35' montana with an F350 diesel?
  • 141 North of Naturita is absolutely spectacular. The north end of that section is like a little Yosemite. Vertical cliffs on both side of the road. And if there is a rain storm there will be many small waterfalls. The road itself is in good condition and didn't have any major grades.

If I recall no issue But I remember it as Rt145 to Grand Junction and Rt 139 north of I-70 to Dinosaur NM.

Am I on the right road?

If so Trout Lake is special - Telluride is Fun - Dunton used to be a little Bar in (think it might be taken over into a Dude Ranch or worse!) To the west off a dirt road, great drive in the toad. Lizard Head Pass is easy and if you need a different drive take Rt 82? over to Ridgway, and then check out Ouray and go up Rt550 to GJ.

This drive should take a t least a week with all the 4X4 trails - one of the last great spots in the Southwest.

    Enjoy the Drive,
  • For CO 139 north to Rangely, check out this post and click on the links I provided.

CO 141 is a decent backroad through western CO. Not a tough road but with the curves and such, you don't make time like an interstate highway. But you're there for the scenery anyway, right? Fuel up in Cortez before you leave. Check out this website for info on things to see along this section of road.
  • Thanks for all the info. Did CO 141 fron Dove Creek to Grand Junction. What a spectacular drive, the Dolores canyon on the south end and the redrock canyon from Naturita north are beautiful.

Glad to see someone willing to get off the beaten path to see some of the wonders of the back roads of Colorado
