Northeast Trip

We have recently purchased a 5th wheel and are planning a trip to the northeast in the fall. I would appreciate any advice from you seasoned 5th wheelers. We are planning to stay near Acadia N.P. for some days. I am concerned about the height clearances in route. My 5th wheel setup sits about 13'-8". I know that IH95 in Maine has some 13'-6" bridge clearances. Also, we are traveling up IH95 from Georgia. Does anyone have experiences getting around Washington DC and New York? I would appreciate any information. Thanks
  • Not being in a rush, from Athens Ga we take 77 to 81, 81 to 78 just North of Harrisburg
    78 to 287, 287 to 87, 87 to 84, 84 to 90, 90 to 495, 495 to 95.

I'm not near as tall as you are so you'd have to check heights.

Harrisburg PA, Danbury, and Hartford CT, usually have traffic.

If you take 95 to 64 at Richmond, there can be traffic at Richmond.
  • You can pick up I-81 at Charlotte and take it to Scranton or...Gettysburg and take US-30 East then up through the Delaware Water Gap.

I just avoid I-95 North of Charleston altogether.

PS..also avoid US-1 in New England. Bad Road..Bad Traffic..Bad small towns.
  • Shoot up I-81 into Scranton, PA and p/u 380 to I-84. Will bypass DC, Philly and NYC and coastline of CT.
  • I have made the trip several times, and have stayed as far away from I 95 as possible! Low clearances on many highways in PA., New Jersey, New York, Mass. I am traveling with a GD Solitude at 13'6", and have not had a problem. You mention ".. Sits about 13'-8".." Before leaving get an exact measurement! About could get you in trouble!
