Not turning in TIP?

We recieved our TIP for our car a couple of months ago. I understand it is almost impossible to get a refund without crossing over and coming back. It now appears that we will not be making it to Mexico until winter 2015. What will happen to our TIP for our car in that case? Will we ever be able to return to Mexico? Thanks, Susie

    Yes, that is what we talked about doing. But we are thinking the fuel cost, plus spending the night would amount to around the same we spent on the permit. We just want to know what will happen if we do nothing. We still want to take this car with the permit to Mexico next year. Thanks, Susie

    Since you apparently live in New Mexico, wouldn't it be cheaper to drive to the nearest border crossing and turn it in rather than forfeit the $200, $300, or $400 deposit on the vehicle?
