How do you deal with Tail-swing when you have heavy high-speed traffic in the adjacent (same direction) lane as you turn?I've taken to:1. Taking two lanes prior to turn(blocking cars from passing in adjacent lane, since Tail-swing will encroach on that lane during the turn).2. Entering deep into the intersection at a very slight angle, then turning sharply at the last second.Any other Tips?

Item #1 will get you rear ended and YOU will be at fault for not maintaining laneJust make the turn as normal..just like you would do in car/truck

My C is longer than yours and we don't have that problem. If you slow enough, use your signal, then you should be fine. The other drivers are required by law to keep an eye out for your maneuvers too.

Yup. We've typically driven a 31-foot Coachmen with seemingly endless rear overhang, and done a fair bit of driving around towns. Never saw problems with adjacent traffic, they seem to figure it out. Even in my case, where I am setting up far on the left edge of a lane for a right turn. I'm slow, huge, and blinking. People seem to get it.

Your tailswing is probably not as severe as you think, especially in a 26 footer. When taking a right turn, just stay close to the curb. Even if you have 12" or more of tailswing, your tail will stay in your lane.

i agree stay in your lane stay to the high side of the turn u will be ok .take two lanes and risk road rage and expect to get cut off and a lot of happy finger signs at u when unsure go slow use turn signals well in advance helps others see where u are going

As many have stated, with "normal" wide 4-lane roads I haven't had a problem entering deep and turning gradually.

Just spent 3 days in-town on very narrow older streets, with many sharp 90 degree turns onto tiny narrow 2 lane side streets. I became aware of this (real) issue on this specific trip.

Blocking traffic is neither necessary 'nor advisable under most circumstances; but under very tight turning maneuvers it may prevent a mishap. Sorry the OP wasn't more clear about the circumstances requiring these extraordinary measures.

When going "deep" into the intersection to make your right turn, be aware of possible oncoming traffic that might have a green arrow to begin their lelf turn. Guess who'll be blocking THEIR receiving lane.

I drive the king of tail swing - a school bus ,as long as you don't crank full lock on the steers at rest,your swing have no 'enroachment',any forward motion while the steering wheel is turned will pull the tail out of any conflict.
Curb striking will be much more of a concern,at least on my 40' bus,your RV should present a lesser risk.

Check with a driver license office to be sure.Most states it is illegal to use more than one lane to turn,however it its legal to go into the next lane or on coming lane to complete the turn if it is clear of traffic.

Uh, no. It is common practice for large vehicles to take up two lanes before making a turn. It is legal too.

Don't tell DH I posted this please.... With our first RV 20 + years ago... A 1978 24" Winnie, he took off from the street and took out a poor little stove that was sitting on the sidewalk with the tail :B. But that's a whole nother' thread!

It might do you well to take your rig to a mall parking lot and set out some cones, make some tight turns to see how much of a swing there really is. The folks who answered you above are correct in stating that your class C at 26' is not all that long. Just try the experiment to reassure yourself of where your tail really is;-)
