Thing is 22 goes North just before Conway. Ocean Lakes is South of Myrtle Beach. Getting on 22 off 501 takes you away from OL. It will bring you out close to Myrtle Beach Travel Park, and Apache in North Myrtle. however, Hitting 31 from 22 just brings you back to 544. Haven't saved any thing, but added a lot of extra miles.
No lights on 22.. Smooth sailing.. no ones on the road.. 75 MPH all day..
501 at conway and down....... lights.. stop, go, stop go stop go stop go.. traffic -traffic-traffic.
Yes you do save about 20 minutes and less aggravation on 22.....
I know I am from NJ in my profile but I go down often to my relatives house at the farms in SC..
22 was a god send when they built that road...
you must get there at a different time of day than me. We don't hit heavy traffic until we pass 31 on 544. Plus. It is 42 miles using 22 to 31 to 54a. It is only 18 on 501, and 544 to the same spot. I do agree. IF you are going from South MB to North MB 31 is great, and the same the other way. But I wouldn't go to North MB to get to South MB.
Now if you are going to North Myrtle beach. It is a great thing. You can get to the north Campgrounds with out ever getting on 17. But for the Southern CGs it is just out of the way, for us any way. there have been very few times we got in traffic going to the beach thru Conway, and once past Conway. It is a easy ride on 501 to 544.
However when we do go to North Myrtle. We don't use 501 at all. We use 74, 410, 701, 9, 31, and 22 to Kings Road. And that is the way we will go at Thanksgiving.
Now there is a thought for you. IF you are coming from the North. you could get off on 74, and not have to drive all the way to 501. After all. You are already closer to North Myrtle. a very short drive from 95 down 74 and over to North MB.
