In the past, I've driven OR 140 East from Lakeview to Denio, North on OR 205 through Fields to Burns, South on OR 78, and North on US 95 to Boise, so I'm at least familiar with this route. I'm seeking info. on the advisability and suitability of other roads on the way to Crater Lake. I plugged the trip into the AAA website and it takes me South from Burns on US 395, then, just south of Wagontire, veers West on a County road through Christmas Valley and, instead of taking OR 31 North at Silver Lake, heading West on another County road until it intersects with US 97. Is this a reasonable route with trailer in tow? I'd appreciate any tips and suggestions you may have about this route. Also, what's the best entryway into Craters, from the North or the South? Thanks in advance.
