On line permits with visual instructions

This page on a Mexico RV Caravan site has the procedure for obtaining permits on line, with pictures, for both RV's & cars/truck. The example is a Truck Camper which is a gray area and a Lexus SUV.

There is a Cargo traialer & an Quad attached to the permit for the camper. That means it is reduced to a 180 day permit from a 10 year permit.

  • When I checked with our consulate in September, they weren't doing any tourist permits, vehicle or visas. Last year we were able to get our visa's there. Things change constantly.

I have done a Copy & Paste and saved the instructions in my files. Could be useful at some point. But I still do not understand the reason for getting the permits ahead of time. We contacted the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix and learned you can go to any consulate to get your vehicle paperwork done ahead of time too. But we did not go because we were also told the only way to get our "migration" papers is at the border - but you can pay for them at any bank I think - not sure. So there is a stop at the border to do paperwork any way you look at it as far as I know. A couple weeks ago we stopped south of Nogales and went through the whole process and were in and out of there in just under an hour. We have had to wait longer - and we have had to wait less time. When we do our vehicle at the border we just hand them our paperwork and they fill everything out and have us sign and pay and that's about it. Getting the permit online may save some time but I am still not sure how. Can anyone explain this?

Not sure how you could do it at a consulate as Banjercito is responsible for vehicle permits, not the governemnt. I beleive certian consulets have Banjercito office, but only a few.
  • On line permit is simple. Like you are doing, fill out the paperwork. Provide credit card information. They charge your card the same amount as if you were at the border, and DHL the permits to your home in a couple of days. You then are asked to scan copies of your paperwork and send it to an e-mail address in DF. (just take photos and send those) You receive a thank you return e-mail.
We like it because we don't have to slow down because we have the permits.
Immigration? We go to Tijuana on a semi-regular basis because we are in San Diego. We were there just 2 weeks before our departure for the winter. We stopped as we walked across the border, had our papers done (hand written), and were told to pay for them at any bank before we left Mexico in 6 months. Took us less than 3 minutes for the two of us. Easy!
We crossed at Lukeville, and didn't have to stop anywhere for anything except gas, and breaks. It just makes life that much easier!
