Lyme disease is not common in northern British Columbia or in Northern Canada. However, if that tick was picked up in southern B.C. then possibly it was carrying Lyme disease.
The risk for exposure to Lyme disease is highest in parts of southern and southeastern Quebec, southern and eastern Ontario, southeastern Manitoba, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as well as much of southern British Columbia.
When we lived on Vancouver Island our dogs would take on up to 10 ticks a day. The vet never recommended treatment because Lyme disease isn't common. We'd remove the ticks using the Tick Twister (best thing ever) and that was it. In Yukon, our dogs have not had one tick ever.
