Does anyone know what the status of the Klondike River Lodge near Dawson City?
I've sent an email to my Dawson pal to double-check.
My friend was on the Dempster last week and advises there is no activity at the Klondike River Lodge.
Thus, anyone planning to drive north on the Dempster must fill up in Dawson City before driving the 25 miles to the start of the Dempster. Next fuel stop is Eagle Plains, 230 miles up the Dempster, meaning a total of 255 miles between fill-ups.
On the subject of the Dempster, if you're comfy with drycamping the campground in Tombstone park is only 45 miles up the Dempster and is a good spot to overnight. We like taking a day trip a bit further north to see the spectacular scenery, then returning to the campground for a second night. Here's the exploring we did in 2011 http://suethomas.ca/20110724_Tombstone.html
And, of course, a picture ... here showing Tombstone Mountain.
