Dawson has several decent campgrounds.
If one wants hookups and to be able to stroll to downtown, the Gold Rush RV Park is the only choice. The other commercial campgrounds are a short distance out of town and too far to walk. The Gold Rush RV Park is clean and cramped, a gravel parking lot crowded with tents & RVs. Keep in mind, with the 24 hours of daylight, people are up and at it 24/7.
Our preference has always been the Yukon River Gov't campground across the river. Still an easy walk with a free walk-on ferry ride. Quieter. Alongside the Yukon River. Near the paddlewheel graveyard (north of the campground along the river's edge). Free firewood. Private sites. Only $12/night.
The Klondike River Gov't campground (between Dawson and the Dempster turnoff) is nice too. So much so the mosquitoes really enjoy it. If you're content to sit inside your RV, or just need a night's sleep before heading up the Dempster, it is okay. But don't sit outside too long.
