I cannot say enough good things about the small town Visitor Centers that we have visited. Not only do they have maps and brochures, they usually have knowledgeable locals who can help you find special places. We are staying here until Sunday because it is the middle of July in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world (the Canadian Rockies) need I say more? A young lady at the VC in Hinton advised us to take highway 40 south to Cadomen and just beyond the pavement to Whitehorse PP. It was a beautiful drive and we saw lots of wildlife and very few people. I was interested to learn that this road, called the Forestry Trunk Rd, continues (unpaved) south on the east side of Jasper and Banff NPs to Canada 1A between Calgary and Canmore. She said that it is a great drive, albeit rough. Does anyone know more about it? lizzie
