Met Beth and her 2010 Winnebago Via at the Pullen Creek RV park in Skagway, where she was spending a four-day rest period with her Fantasy tour. Tried to help her with a basement door latch. Her tour wagon master finally fixed the problem by cleaning the grease off the latch on the door to her LP.
She and others on her tour and a Fantasy Tour group we camped near in Homer say they're having great times.
Loved Skagway because of Ruth Craig at Dave's Dyea tour vans and Jewel's Garden, which is the best restaurant we've visited on this trip. It serves fresh fish and organic veggies grown in its beautiful vegetable gardens. The flower gardens are amazing. And the news shop on Broadway is the only place in Alaska where I've found the Wall Street Journal and NY Times, which made up for no WIFI in Skagway. Skagway is a jewelry shop town, which turned us off. Lots of cruise ships dock there.
Also, see the '98 show about Soapy Smith, the Klondike gold rush crime boss who ran the town before he was shot in a 1898 duel. Very entertaining.
We're journaling our trip on RVforum.net. (Oldedit and SaltyAdventurer).
Now in Haines for three days. Found a nice coffee shop—Dusty Compass— with great lattes, scones and free WIFI, which has been scarce since Seward. We're staying at the Oceanview RV park, which is run by a nice, helpful couple. They're hosting a Dungeness******potluck for guests tonight.
It's nice to be on the ferry after a couple of months on the road. We'll be on the road again after we reach Port Angeles, WA, in about a month.
