Alaska Route Planning:
We recommend Tok to Fairbanks then down the Parks Highway to Denali and the Kenai Penninsula and then Valdez. ie Counter clockwise route. The beautiful scenery is in the southern part of Alaska so get Fairbanks out of your system first.
Actually there is no right/wrong directions - just choices and gamble with the weather.
Of course if you like the scenery of the arctic dessert then by all means go to Fairbanks first.
But if you don't make reservations then check Valdez and Kenai Penninsula weather while in Tok and if it's good head to Valdez.
