While we would take the Fjord Express to Juneau tour again seeing Juneau again is not high on our list. Both Juneau and Skagway are tourist dominated jewelry towns. By that I mean the main attraction is the Caribbean town style diamond/jewelry shops complete with the same companies and people from the Caribbean. This is for the ships and Juneau had 5 and Skagway had 4 docked while we were there. But a beer at the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau certainly helped.
While we have been fortunate to take several cruise ships we don’t get this plan. You’re in port all day and cruising at night. We would prefer to take a ferry which cruises both day and night and see the spectacular scenery. And a small RV or car would be ideal where you get off for several days and see the ports that the cruise ships don’t visit.
Haines can dock one cruise ship but is less jewelry dominated.
