Most of the vehicles now travelling the Alaska Highway north of Haines Junction have Alaska licence plates. Many are towing household goods and U-Haul trailers. Either moving out or moving in to Alaska.
Last weekend when we visited my hometown Beaver Creek, I'd estimate that about 75% of the plates were Alaskan, 10% were Yukoners and the remaining 15% were Lower 48 or British Columbia.
The funniest rig I saw was a half-ton truck with Alaska plates towing a flat-deck trailer with a large freezer strapped to the trailer. A running generator was strapped down with the freezer plugged into the gennie. And a street bike strapped in to the space left over. It was a noisy generator too ... scared off all the birds on the lake at the rest area when that rig pulled in! Looked like a father/son adventure - two men jumped out of the truck.
