The Canadians have a right to moan about the cost of Mexico. With most RV parks I've been hearing about charging in US Dollars, Canadians take a loss on their money. At one point this winter it cost $1.42 CAD to buy an American dollar. With CAD hovering around 13 pesos, we see that as the "usual" exchange rate. But with the CAD low against the USD - and having to pay in Greenbacks - we are losing our parity with the usual value of the peso, immediately. The USD has been up to 18.5 pesos, and this is why you find it so cheap, although if paying for RV parks in USD, you do lose some of that advantage, but when paying in Pesos, you're better off than at any time in the last ten years.
Just because you are quoted a price in US Dollars doesnt mean you have to pay in Dollars.
Just ask what the Peso price is. In EVERY CASE when I did this the price was cheaper because they were basing their US dollar cost on an old exchange rate. NO park NO store no where ever tried to force me to pay in US Dollars.
This is part of the confusion I have over the Canadians grumping because Mexico is so expensive. No one is forcing you to use US Dollars, it is an option.
Further when the US Dollar is high it is to the BENEFIT of Mexican Businesses to accumulate US Dollars and then exchange them for MORE Pesos than they would have gotten if you had paid in Pesos.
Those of you that don't get this and consider currency some sort of Political statement instead of an economic tool are seriously misguided.
If the Mexicans want US Dollars and you want to spend them (foolish as it is)who are you to complain?
