Overnight in Chatanooga TN

We do a week in Cades Cove every year in October. For the last several years we have left on Thursday afternoon and driven to Chatanooga and spent the night in the Gunbarrel Rd Walmart. Last year we were met by security and advised that we could no longer park there. He pointed us to the lot next door and we spent the night there. No harm, no foul. Is there any other place to spend a night in the Chatanooga area? We do this to avoid a looong day on the road and to miss the heavy traffic in Chatanooga during the day.

Any help and suggestions appreciated.

  • Thanks for the ideas folks. I like the Cracker Barrel suggestion. We usually get in late, as in around midnight and leave by 7.

exit 1 and exit 5, both permit overnights.

Pick-up one of their maps.. they post all restaurants that do and do not permit overnights.
close at 10 and open at 6.... so little noise.

you are NOT required to eat there. but I like there food and coffee.

If your going to do the Cracker Barrel WalMart thing, go on to I-24 exit 174. Much better area and your on the west side of Chattanooga.
  • You can probably find a good Thursday night spot at a reasonable price at Harrison Bay State Park. Looks like they are booked for weekends during October, though.

  • There is a Cabelas off of the first exit on I 75 in Georgia. I believe they allow overnight parking. I would call a head to make sure.
  • They have a Camping World there, just off of I-75 that has a campground. I think it's about $22/night or was when we stayed there a couple of years ago.
  • We found this to be a nice place and we stopped for the same reason you gave, loooong drive.
