overnighting options - Mazatlan - Durango/Torreon/Saltillo

Hello friends. We are driving from Mazatlan to Laredo soon over the new autopista/"devils backbone". Anyone have any new information about overnighting in Durango or further north toward Torreon? Walmarts or Pemex? Any Motels that have adequate parking for 25ft TT and truck not in the city, but close to the road, to Saltillo?
I've searched the web, with no new info. Hopeing for more current experiences from other travelers.
  • Thank you Tequila. This is what i'm looking for. Thanks for the update. I did see your earlier post when i was researching last fall. Hundreds of RV's must have used this route so far, but few posts of how they managed to overnight safely. Free overnighting in a Pemex or Walmart is always my last choice when for a few bucks there are decent, safe, options.

Do a search using the name of the town you want to know about - at the top of each thread here - search in Mexico forum only - there have been several posts over the years.

I made that post. This is still a good place to stay. What they call a no-tell motel. You just rent a room (250 pesos). Check out channel 8 on the TV. We used it for a caravan
  • thank you briansue. tomorrow i will check this out, it's late. With so many folks using this new route, I was looking for current ways to navigate. I know very little about this route.
  • We came through Satillo a couple of weeks ago, the Fuerte appeared to be closed - had a we renta sign on it. We stayed at the Imperial, okay but expensive for a parking lot with questionable power and water.

  • Don't know about Torreon or Durango but there are a couple of options in Saltillo and a good one in Matehuela if you go that way.

Here are links to our blog pages where we overnighted in Saltillo and Matehuala

You can make Laredo directly from Matahuela in one day without going through Saltillo.
