The turnpike is 100% toll.. in order to enter, you need to either take a ticket, or have your EZ Pass scanned..

That should be minimal as the exits for 81 is #226, and the exit for 283 is # 247.. Only 21 miles separate them both.

Just take US 30 east, shorter, a bit slower, less fuel, more scenic, takes you right to Lancaster. Be sure to fill your tank before entering the state with the highest fuel taxes in the nation.

Thought the State of Connecticut had the highest fuel tax...

Unless Connecticut very recently raised their gas tax, Pennsylvania holds the honor of the highest tax. :(

If you're on the Turnpike, you're paying a toll.

Consider taking I-81 North to I-83 South to I-283 South and pick up
PA 283 East to Lancaster.

I usually take 30 at Chambersburg and it is a good ride but this time my son is going and time is short. Thought 76 would be faster.

The Turnpike would probably be the quickest. When you get off the pike at the Harrisburg East interchange, it puts you right on PA 283 East.
Bite the bullet and pay the toll. :)

PA fuel taxes are no joke. I live near Pittsburgh. If I drive 45 minutes east and cross the border into Ohio, gas is instantly 45-50 cents a gallon cheaper.
Any time I'm over that way, I have mapped out the last gas station to fill up before coming back into PA.

Whatever you do stay off I-78. There are stretches of that road that are the equivalent of a General Motors torture test for vibration and shock. I was towing my new TT on that road on Memorial Day and surprised the house didn't detach from the chassis.

Using the toll calculator you posted, for a class 4 it will only be about $4.25 if you have EZ pass.... or just under $7.00 if you do not have EZ Pass..

That is a good stretch of the pike, I would have no issues paying that
