Pemex charges SCE
FULL BORE on diesel prices for generator plants, and for #6 fuel oil and pitch for boilers. By law precio basico y intermedio for 150 kWh and secondary intermediate levels are low. Subsidized. But go to excedente, and you soon will find yourself paying fifty US cents per kilowatt hour at DAC rates. NOT AFTER you get your 1st and 2nd stage subsidized rate but right from kilowatt hour 1.
Now get out your USA or Canadian bill and see if you use SEVENTY FIVE KILOWATT HOURS PER MONTH. Well? Do you? Yes or No?
If you use say 200 - 400 kWh per month, how would you like the privilege of paying a hundred to two hundred USA dollars a month PLUS SIXTEEN PERCENT TAX for your power? For many people, they would scream their head off if they were limited to a measly 400 kWh a month.
If you think ANY PRODUCT is cheap in Mexico these days you're out of your freakin' mind. Seasonal produce is inexpensive, meat the consistency of a BF Goodrich all terrain tire, costs $3.30 USA per pound. Even cheap Mexican Combate whole grain coffee costs THIRTEEN dollars a pound. $2.35 per flat of 30 eggs. THREE DOLLARS NINE CENTS for a gallon of whole fresh milk. The dairy is sixty miles from here.
Ooooooo it's because farm land COSTS as much as USA farmland. Or maybe the Caesar Chavez grade wages paid for labor. Maybe that SIXTY DOLLAR pair of shoes I priced in Leon Guananjuato will SOMEDAY graduate into the quality of a pair of ten dollar Chinese shoes. Remember, those Leon shoes had to cross all the way across Leon not merely across the Pacific Ocean.
Top tier proveedores (warehouse distributors) import a part from the USA for let's call it fifteen dollars. They pay duty of the fifteen dollar part, then charge THIRTY DOLLARS for it to Auto Parts stores. It's a joke. Eduardo paid SIXTEEN DOLLARS for a 6203 Chinese bearing for his car's idler pulley. My price for a genuine NTN made in Canada bearing is a dollar sixty nine cents.
Mexican automobiles are absurdly more expensive than USA cars and Mexican cars DO NOT HAVE AS STRICT OF EMISSION STANDARDS nor safety standards. Maybe it's because Mexican auto worker wages are way the hell and gone higher than USA wages.
Mexicans charge Mexicans as high a price as they can get away with. The problem is the big boys bribe gobernacion to enact protective shields to prevent competition from cracking their golden egg. Octavio Paz put it best when he wrote "Mexico is the land of ------- others before they ---- you".
There is NO EXCUSE for exploiting the poor who live from hand to mouth. From the president down to the lowliest importer, the golden rule is "I've got to get all I can when I can" As president Carlos Salinas de Gotari's brother Raul Salinas put it, after getting caught with #185,000,000 in anonymous Swiss bank accounts "It's All Due To Shrewd Investing".
