Exploiting the poor and ignorant is a fact of life since the beginning of time. Probably in every species of life. And will continue until the end of time. Nothing will ever change that so accept it as fact. If you're going to be stupid you better be strong.
That is a very sorry attitude. And most people who are exploited are not necessarily stupid. Ignorant and stupid are totally different things. Opportunity is lacking for people who are not provided with a proper education so they cannot fight their way out of poverty without help. This may very well be fact but we do not and should not ever accept it. It is wrong - plain and simple. There are many things that are wrong in this world and we should not accept any of them.
So the point of my comment about fuel prices in Mexico and mostly my question - and I do know the answer but also do think it is wrong. SO - Pemex is owned by the government but seems to be run by the unions. Who owns the oil they pump out of the ground? The government? Besides the cost of getting it out of the ground and transporting and refining - what are the costs of the oil? It is the same oil out of the same hole in the ground as I said before. Are their leases and drilling rights and mineral rights as there are in the US? Where the oil companies drill on a farmers land and then pay the farmer so much per barrel the remove from beneath the land? Or is the oil basically free to the government? The point being - does it cost them anything? If it is free to them then what difference does the international price per barrel make to the price at the pump in Mexico. They do not pay that price to get the oil. It is their oil. Or am I totally confused? They do not buy the oil from other countries based on the international price.
Another example would be Venezuela where the last time I checked - not more than a couple years ago - the price was still 17 cents a gallon and has been for a great many years. They sell on the international market as a member of OPEC but to their people they sell at an affordable price.
I am not here to complain about what we have to pay - I am here to discuss why the people of Mexico have to pay. Yes - I know the reasons - politicians - unions - etc. That does not make it right. In one of my posts above I did a Copy & Paste of information I found online which says Mexico collects less tax than most other big countries. Mexico has attracted many industries and major factories have been built and are being built all over Mexico. Why has that not raised the revenue to the government so they can run the government without depending on Pemex for 35% to 45% of the budget? Yes - I know the answer but that puts the burden on the people and not on the businesses that have been attracted to Mexico.
Why can't they find a way to run the government without putting all the burden on the people? Used to be Mexico had low cost fuel. But now they just let it go up and up and froze the price and left it up. Wrong wrong wrong. If everyone just accepted the things that are wrong in this world it would be hell for all of us. Accepting things that are wrong is just wrong.
